I love words.  I love books that string together words in intelligent and lovely ways.  I read fiction and nonfiction, but mostly literary nonfiction (and occasionally novels and stories that are just easy and not all that literary.)  I like to write about what I read.  But I never forget something Sherman Alexie said about a reviewer of one of his books:  “I write books.  You just read and review them ”  (the unspoken truth was:  ‘so I am better than you.’   I agree with Sherman.)

So the reviews will be positive.  I believe that life is too short to read bad books.  So I rarely finish books if I don’t like them.  And why would I spend time writing about a book that I hated?  I’m not getting paid for it, right?

This year, I’m committed to reading more books about social justice and writing about them here. I’ll post a review each week. If you have ideas of books I should read, please add them in the comments!
